What would cause this uproar

To debate the fate of a chimp

Shall these animals become personified

Or vilified as we discuss their fate

Our decision with a vision

With not set free this primate

We must ask what is it

What really makes us

Real?

Is it the ability to think

No

That has been displayed

Even simple creatures can have thoughts

So they say

Is it our autonomy or ability to change

Our adaptations to the surroundings

This assumption truly has no grounding

The line of what makes us human

Is now being discussed

Will the court come to order

So clearly we can define the border

Between me

And this chimp

If we declare them ‘legal persons’

Then we had better start the paperwork

We will have social securities to file

Insurance reports to collect

Might even be good for the economy if I recollect

But at the core should we care for these claims

For these chimps are no champion for social change

Awareness or good

They may be high level thinking

But what good does it do

To put them on the same level of humanity

As me and you

Who will debate this

The policiticans and the heritics

Really this is something I must stay out of

Personhood or not I will treat all with love

At the end of the day that is what I hope for

So whether I see a chimp pull up in the car

Right next to mine

Or if I just see him at the zoo next time

It is just fine with me

Whatever those people decide

I will just let it be
