The Chicago Skyway

A clear day

Is the adversary

Of the dark and cold

Winter months

So on a summers sweet

Step

The city blossoms

From the west

Into the city

Over the bridge

The Chicago Skyway

A beauty that is

From way above

And down below

A city scape

I have come to know

Until Now

What did I want

I wanted nothing

What did I do

I did nothing

What did I say

I spoke nothing

And the wind blew

And my hair grew long

And grey

And then

One day

I spoke the words

I had sought

For many years before

To give love

To be love

And to be sweet

In being given away

I was cold

Until now

The warmth is back

In my fingers

And heart

Neither Here Nor There

Here no there

I can’t understand

The plan

To go from

The mighty

Hopes of today

To the realities of tomorrow

It’s neither here nor there

Nor anywhere

So where is the

Promise of tomorrow

If it’s not around

Here

Chicago Coffee

Off of Lake Michigan

Down on Belmont

Next to Broadway

There is a place

That lines up

Out the door

Not always

But once more

The caramel taste hue

More than a drink

A life

Lifestyle

It’s where I learned something

I can’t quite explain

But the reality of age

Has the same

Effects

As that coffee did

Years ago
