Daily Shelter

I pray

For a daily

Shelter

Away from the light

That is burning the ground

All around

I see a small whimper of

Hope

So I seek this hope

Daily

And reminds me to stay

Planted on the

Ground

Complete

The entirety

Of everything

Completely

Overshadows

Hope

As I knew it

A small growing birth of light

Is now just a ray of darkness

Mean

And stubborn

No holding space for others

When the hope

Is to worship

Oneself

Confused

More confused today

Than yesterday

Wait until the light

Is gone

And the room is dark

Then real confusion

Sets in

The time and place

When all is unknown

And every difficulty

Must be faced

Vast

The vast nature

Of the world

Seems to override

My own ability

To understand

What is happening

Across the land

From ocean to ocean

The wide expanse

Is contracting

Into one confusing

Mess

Melt

The melt

On a 100 degree day

In Northern Michigan

In the fall

Unlike any other

Before

The heat bears

Witness to the

Feelings we have

That life is not quite

Normal

These days
