It’s been a cold start
To the year
Not to many things
That I can list
Of which I am overwhelmed
With happiness
I am damp
But I am alive
Doing the best that I can
It’s been a cold start
To the year
Not to many things
That I can list
Of which I am overwhelmed
With happiness
I am damp
But I am alive
Doing the best that I can
Poems are for the poets
Surely not for me
“Words” are a better fitting
In the way I see
Although it has no pretense
No context
Or clearly guided path
I am just a homeless man
Not a gifted Sylvia Plath
Putting words to a paper
As fast as I can
There is no plan or arrangement
Just the connections made
And dues still to be paid
I have been under a salty
Spell
Longing for the ocean
Wide and calm
To soothe my fear
To take away the dread
Of what happens
Every single
Day
I knew walking in
That my time was running thin
That the thoughts of the surrounding
Few
Were enough to undo
My state of mind
So I laid back
I laid low
The judgement set
Had already taken
It toll
A richer woman
A older woman
Sit in the corners of
The cafe
Starring at each other
Dueling thougths
On clear display
Never a moment to agree
Or speak
Just contempt
And conceit
A proper form
Display
I glide
Into the night
Easy as it came
Come and go
Sleep
Now
I arrested the thoughts
That had made a bad impression
On my mind
Unforgettable characters
Lined up
Side by side
I feel alive in every inch
Of my mind and soul
From a marginalized love
To the heart of my own
Dating apps
From the cold phone
Snaps the attention
Of a lost soul
Looking for connection
A real life
Ressurection
But instead just brings
More of the same
Without any delay
Storm brew
From sea to shining sea
A fallen snowflake
Soon will be
Joined with many others
Across the country
From Texas to North Dakota
New York to New Mexico
Here comes a late
Spring snow
When the hope
Cuts deeper than the passing of time
The in between haunting
That will float in our minds
I will bleach my eyes
Until the white is all that is left
So that when the hope comes back
I can wrap my bandages
And walk out into the open
Street
