Temporary Community

Pulled off on the side of the road for bad weather

Said there might be a tornado round the bend

Closed and locked the car and headed in for shelter

The smell of cooked meat and raw potatoes

Clung to my skin as I rushed in with the fresh air

I sat and watched the storm unfold 15 miles away

Ripping the trees from the dampened fall ground

I turn around to see others standing around

Concerned for the storm that is now heading our way

In a gentle manner I tried to keep everyone calm

I have no idea what I was trying to say

But everyone seemed happy to be going along

As the wind and rain ripped into the building sides

We could no longer see our cars parked just outside

A young girl sat alone on her phone

Shaking and afraid to be out here all on her own

I tried to remind her that she would be just fine

Got to be tough stuck in a burger joint contemplating life

Alone

A wife sat with her husband holding onto her kids

Hoping that the storm would miss us

Another woman on her way to Chicago

Wondering once the storm rolled in which way she should go

I tried to keep everyone’s hopes up a simple gesture

Here I was hoping just to make things a little bit easier

Not quite sure if I helped I could see the storm caused the fear in her

Inside that building business went on as usual

Burgers being flopped from one side to the next

I had no real care for what was going on

Just watching what the storm did next

We all made this our temporary stop

Out of the blasting rain and bustling wind

One of the workers made it over to make sure that we were all alright

Holding our heads and cell phones so very tight

The wind ripped the rain poured

As soon as I turned around I felt like

There was a storm no more

Two tornadoes

One to the north

One to the west

Not our day to fight it out

But it was one hell of a test

As the rain cleared and the sun made its meager reappearance

With the dim lit assurance we could make out way on

Walking out to our cars we said our simple goodbyes

A small community was formed in that joint

Connected we were in a concern for the future

But as that future became our past we made out way out into the evening

Waved our goodbyes

And back to our paths in life we then proceeded

Lighting the Sky

I have been back in the States for just a couple of days. I have many writings and poems from Europe that I will be sharing soon. Life has been busier than expected all throughout Europe and even upon my return. In which case I end up writing in my book and not posting. I will make sure to get these posts up soon. Tonight a wicked late spring storm rolled in and I found it to be the perfect time to saddle into my chair and get the blog rolling again. Nothing like a little summer storm for inspiration. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for stories from Europe. Cheers.

Evening wear and summer thin

Sit right here to watch the storm roll in

Spitting drops from up above

Somehow this feeling fills me with love

Winds blowing from the west

Moving trees

Dancing

Jumping

Step outside and let the rain wash you back in

Have not seen clouds gather in months

Feels nice to see the storm front

Moving through this little town

Sending people inside

Wind blowing around

The days work will be left undone

Unless you finished in the setting sun

Rain will come for a couple of days

Bringing new light from the suns rays

But tonight it is dark as an evening lake

With waters so black no light penetrates

The night pulls us in to watch as the storm strikes

Moving quick

Striking fast

Rain splashes on the cement street

Getting our feet wet

Sending us into a retreat

Under the roof for some simple cover

Wind blowing now

Storms pulling at the seams

Grappling to throw down

Thunder playing a marching song

While the lightning illuminates the sky

The flash camera snaps catching all in one place

The trees hold still as our corneas adjust

For a moment the world is a white washed gray

Held in place by the light

Then darkness resumes bending trees and leaves

Up down all around

Flashing white amidst deep black hues

All on a summers storm

The thunder plays

The lightning song

Jerk of my Emotion

Dreaming of a luscious tropical escape – in the midst of a cold spell in the midwest. It was fun to escape the mind to this place, only to be pulled back to the bittersweet Indiana town. Never the less indulge yourself for just a couple of moments – read it twice for a return to your escape and then pull yourself back and feel refreshed – i think… Enjoy!

Bout time

Out of sight

Out of mind

In the right

Or in the wrong

Sing it summer love

In a similar song

Sitting in a boat

Upon the wide ocean

Tug of the sea

A jerk of my emotion

Keep singing on and on

Bitterness so sweet

In part to a song

Birds fly by with careful craft

The water laps the boat

Trickles down

Warming laugh

Oceans are miles away

Settled into winters gray

But thoughts can wonder

And surely do

Over oceans wide

Of summers dew

My mind is peaceful

Hopeful content

Winter will soon follow

Where summer had went

Fast folding packing every season

You must hold fast for every reason

The snow will melt upon sunshine beams

Winters embrace will fall apart

And burst at the seems

But for now I will relinquish

In winter sleep

For as it is now

This optimism

I surely must keep
