An Ostracized Welcome

For some reason

The feeling of isolation

Does not bother me

Ostracized

Rather than welcome

Is something that I find welcomed

For in the subtle disapproval

I found

Holding steadfast

To my own principles

Some will appreciate this

Others will laugh and dismiss

Find something

Refuse to cave in

It has taught me that what people

Find important

Is not always important to me

That is all that I needed to see

To understand that if I stand tall

Don’t give in

The reward of being me

Alone amongst a crowd

Rewards the soul more

When I fall asleep at night

That is really all

I can ask for

Calculation Mishandled

Mathematics

Mere asthmatics

Done on fingers

Counting

Adding

Subtracting

One off

Two down

Now the implied

Does not have solid ground

How could I have mistaken

Forgotten or impatient

I must re-add

Multiply then subtract

Look for signs of hope

Continue to go forward

Rather than look back

The Eager Morning Awaits

Some days I count

Other days are spelled out

Each letter taken

With care and attention

T

Thunderous and thoughtful

Thinking it through

O

Offering wonderful oblique

Opaque moments

D

Dazzling distractions

Distant drunken cousins

A

Ample amounts of inertia

Aching in mornings

Y

Youth charged nights

Young and yearning for life

Returning to metrics and numeric

Counting days

Passing like reflector strips

On the vacant highway

1

2

3

Passing by the seats of you and me

Today we take each moment

Cherishing

We try to own it

What we say

What we do

The eager morning awaits

Me and you

Cost Driver

What drives cost
The cost maker
Takes us passenger
Recklessly driving
Swerving
No idea what where we are
Or were we are headed
Corporate HQ wants to know
How it can keep
Every penny free
Food becomes commodity
Consumed by you and me
The cheaper it is
The less I recognize
What it is I consume
They will be selling air
At higher margins
Very soon
I’m just trying to make rent and stay alive
While the money type
Keep costs low
On this reckless drive

Mere Mortals

Making paths out of town
Stairs up
Stairs down
Padded feet touching the blackened ground
Boston to Brooklyn
Now Minnesota bound
Skyscrapers fill eyes wide looking all around
Flights to catch
Caught above ground
Subways clock click and pass
Under bridges and street
Towering overpass
The city passes us along to world portals
Making life bigger than what the mind
Is capable of
We are just mere mortals

Shaded Morning Expectations

White shade illuminate morning expectations

We look forward to a changing tide

With our eyes wide and hoping

Take one good look over the past

This moment will no longer last

Than it has taken to pass

Green in the city

Staying this way

Will prove a challenge

Yet a reward

We push onward

Today we set our roots in a new home

Two souls together

Better than one alone

Big City Big Plan

Big city
Big plans
We go
Where the unknown
Is full
Certainty
Empty
While we grow
Outside of comforts
Lined growth
And direction
To set out
To find our own reflection
Among skyscrapers and the Hudson
We stay warm
With eyes on the empire
Feet pushing through
The snow and sand
In a big city
With big plans

Overwhelming Evidence

Challenge
Knocked down
While my eyes wonder round
The changing landscape
Oh the eastern seaboard
You look different
New
Yet confused
While I lay bemused
Yet I have made it through
Under conditions variant and cold
We made it to the city
Only one week old
I wake up
Back on solid footing
And push on

Full of Heart

I hope this post finds you well

Full of heart and eyes that swell

We make our way to city heights

On this blustery winter night

We find a new home

Among many and hoping

For luck to come our way

We will find out with rest

And another day
