Alone with the Microphone

The microphone sits

Tucked in the studio

Ready to tell the stories

Of love and loss

The honest of the moment

Can be unraveled in front of the ear

Of the world

What webs weave leave that to you

And the musician who has crafted

The art of the time with the instrument

And the song at hand

To play just a moment

Can be a great honor

To be in front of the microphone

In the studio

Alone

The Fox and the Cactus

The fox and the cactus live

Next to each other

As if brothers

In arms

But in the depth of the thicket of cactus

Is the birds sining their song

With the rabbits tucked away

The refuge of the desert you could say

Upon the floor of the sand

Stands a little man

From the desert within

The fox can only see this when he begins

To move the perimeter

But mutual respect upon the floor of the desert

As the fox doesn’t enter the cactus

And the cactus clears of the fox

A New Home

The laugh that comes from within

When you are settled in

From the coast to the midwest

Out to the west under the Camelback Mountain

With tin roofs

Under the light of the desert sun

From the journey to one

Destination

Today I take a breathe to understand

The life that I live now

Will look different but all the same

In a world changing

And falling away from my fingertips

The Longer Shadow Cast

Unto the evening

Of reds and purple

Skies of the desert

On fire with evening light

Descending

The longer the shadow cast

Brings in the evening air

Cool and crisp as the

Desert night

Cold upon the relinquished light

Take me to the desert near the

Camelback trail

The world at large

Could only bring this beauty

Upon my eyes to see

Moving Words

Moving words

In late night discussion

Sporadic thoughts

Where we are moving

To the deserts of the west

Canopy of south of the Midwest

Through highway curves

And underpasses

I am left feeling lost

Lost between New York

And LA

Not quite sure where

The words will take us

Today

Lost in a cover of clouds

Covering my thoughts

So silent

And so loud

No feeling about the future

No recollection of the past

My love asks me with weary eyes

Is there any wrong

Or any right

To this question that we seek

Answers to tonight

Maybe Georgia

Or the Smokies in NC

That is where my heart will be

Perhaps in the desert with

Snakes and cactus

This conversation always seems to lose

Us

Somewhere in the US we will be

Tomorrow and the day after

Perhaps even a year from now

These moving words have no

Real ability to move me

And I am sure we will revisit this

In these late night car seats
