The 69 Cent Photo Bin

600 photos

Stacked 6 inches deep

Priced at 69 cents each

Can teach

Much about the relatively of life

Rather or a lifetime

How little I cared for any of these

Vintage photos

Who were these people were staring back

At me

Fishing, world landmarks, time spent vigoursly

Yet they have no value to me

They are just old photos

Of lives gone by

A single moment trapped in time

So I tossed one back on the pile

Old man with a big smile

Someday that will be me on that photo

Unknown and growing old

Passed down until someone gives up

And I’ll end up

In the 69 cent photo bin

Contrast and Compare

Contrast and compare

Leaving the soul in despair

Defining moments come through

Preparation and function

Losing all thoughts in deliberate motion

When all is lost

The path seems insurmountable

Breathtaking and long

There will be only one chance left

Of one lone singer

One lone song

Calculation Mishandled

Mathematics

Mere asthmatics

Done on fingers

Counting

Adding

Subtracting

One off

Two down

Now the implied

Does not have solid ground

How could I have mistaken

Forgotten or impatient

I must re-add

Multiply then subtract

Look for signs of hope

Continue to go forward

Rather than look back

Soul Pride

I took my friend from Sweden to the JFK
As we stood looking out the window of the train
I heard her say
That the Manhattan skyline made her remember the city
Trains passing by
Yet oh so pretty
NYC set on the evening sky
I will miss this place said with a sigh
Upon which it dawned on me
How lucky we are
To be
Citizens of this beautiful
Amazing
Country
What others would do to be come one
Get married, fall in love, sneak in, to get it done
But me I am set on this land
Born 20 steps from Lake Michigan
I found my pride
My soul
My heart owned
This seductive city
To call my own
But with pride comes
Responsibility
From sea to shining sea
We make this land great
Or terrible
It’s as easy as our demeanor
Can make it wondrous
Or meaner
We represent this city to travelers
Make it proud from skyscraper
To gravel
Take a moment to recall
What it means to be American
What all it is
What pride and joy
That we live in a great land
Our hearts deploy

The Eager Morning Awaits

Some days I count

Other days are spelled out

Each letter taken

With care and attention

T

Thunderous and thoughtful

Thinking it through

O

Offering wonderful oblique

Opaque moments

D

Dazzling distractions

Distant drunken cousins

A

Ample amounts of inertia

Aching in mornings

Y

Youth charged nights

Young and yearning for life

Returning to metrics and numeric

Counting days

Passing like reflector strips

On the vacant highway

1

2

3

Passing by the seats of you and me

Today we take each moment

Cherishing

We try to own it

What we say

What we do

The eager morning awaits

Me and you

Overwhelming Evidence

Challenge
Knocked down
While my eyes wonder round
The changing landscape
Oh the eastern seaboard
You look different
New
Yet confused
While I lay bemused
Yet I have made it through
Under conditions variant and cold
We made it to the city
Only one week old
I wake up
Back on solid footing
And push on

Full of Heart

I hope this post finds you well

Full of heart and eyes that swell

We make our way to city heights

On this blustery winter night

We find a new home

Among many and hoping

For luck to come our way

We will find out with rest

And another day

NYC by Night

After many pains, deliberations, and delays

We are finally ready to make our way

To NYC and the east coast

We packed our bags

But still left most

Of what we owned behind

Tight car little time

Here we go

I-80 and the turnpike

I pray it clear with no ice

And we hope to make New York city

By night

A Wonderous Test

Plans were made

Belongings were moved

This place we lived

Now looked new

To my eyes and you

No longer our home

But a memory

A place we stayed

It’s hard to imagine

Us living elsewhere

But so calls life

Opportunity

And growth

So we had to let go

Of what we knew

For the unknown

Loosing sight of shore

Push from the dock

Just a little more

We move on

Happy and sad

Love was nourished here

Love will grow

Wherever we go

But today this place

Looks different

We will leave our youth

A sense of innocence

For what lay ahead

We hold each other

Not one word was said

We fall asleep

Catch our rest

For what lies ahead

Will surely prove

A wondrous test
