The First Step

The values held

Holding onto

What I have learned

From my journey through

The good times

The bad

Is that each individual

Has the ability to grow

Change

And develop

But just because

Opportunity

Does not breed success

One must act

And take the first step

Writing

Writing in form

Has to stay in function

Underground water

Tapped dysfunction

I tap my own resources

Short and few

Writing

I hope

I make it through

Feel the Steel

Feel the steel

In the air

In the water

Byproducts

Running through the veins

Underground

Sound the steel

See the light

Burning on the shores

A desire to go back

Backfired

While the steel mills

Burn

All night long

We have done something

Wrong

Mean Anything

While your young

Pursue your dreams

While you are young

Why is this

What does it mean

How can it be

That as we age

We can not accomplish anything

While we are young

So youth implies dreams

Age implies death

Our own cultural symbols

Abolished as we went

So “go while you are young”

Some say

But rather

Go old and young

Both together

Can pursue dreams

Accomplish things

Even though people say these lofty words

And it doesn’t mean a thing

The Lonely Ones

The lonely ones

Start early

And end late

They find a path

Constructed

From paper machete

From the grounds of

Sacred hollow

The lonely ones

Have a tough

Pill to swallow

The lonely ones

Changing our world

In silence

Foggy City

Foggy city

With its grey hues

Haven’t been back in a while

So I’m past due

A city

A world

New York City airport

Love and live

Hope and sin

It’s been a while

And I’m glad to be back

The Steel Notebook

The steel notebook

Full of nondescript poems

Powered by sea foam

And purchased in time

The steel notebook

Has no rules or outcomes

Held on the corners

The steel notebook can fall

Back into my hands

Thought Badge

Don’t wear

The thought badge

Out

When you can speak

Your mind

Don’t keep quiet

And hope thoughts

Will

Save

The World
