The Coals of Ambition

Can anyone tell me where this is going

I am not quite sure I follow

yet I am content to find out

there is no real place called home

not when living a life on the roam

for what might be better

yet sometimes much worse

my thoughts fumble as my mind wonders

internal rain

perpetual thunder

raking me across the coals of ambition

little did I know it would hold me ransom

these things that I was wishing

holding onto dearly as if the bible

these contemptuous desires should be convicted of liable

they have not given what was prescribed

empty bags straight out lied

and made me feel at home

in a bed of feathers

little did i know my mind it would teather

and hold down with uncertainty

but certainly

I will come out stronger on the other end

I once was a three

Now I am a ten

time to grow up

rather than start again

I will leave it here for tonight

what I said seems alright

I will fall fast asleep

until the the night is bright with

morning light

Beach Town

Beach town
Summers up winters down
The sun warms the shandy’s in this small town
Rusted chairs and concrete sidewalks
Just happy to be hanging out
Walking around
Up and down the main drag
These warm days make up what winter lag
The small shops open their doors
Returning to business once more
A Lakebreeze keeps you cool
While the wispy clouds coming go
Flags hung high and bright
Prepares the soul for a summer night
Sidewalk chalk and burnt out grass
Loving this sitting on my ass
A little getaway is what we need
Watching the grass grow
From this summer seed

Urban Desert

Ughhhh.

–

There is a Walmart round the corner

TGI Friday feeding everyone

Can’t get away from this Urban Sun

It’s not easy for the small guys

when the big names move in

This part of town

The big guy always win

Saw two new stores were moving in

Had a little bit of hope within

What is that I asked on day

Gunna be an AutoZone

A clone of the service store we already have

With my hope wounded and deprived

I asked with hope one more time

What is that going to be

A mattress store for you and me

A matress store?

Oh No
Please say it can’t be

How many mattresses do we all need?

Surely this part of town does not need more beds

I know we lay around a lot

But we are not dead

Or maybe that is why the mattress store moved in

So that we would lay down more often

On beds fresh and softened

I get sad when I think of it

Surely does not make me smile

When the world deals you lemons

I get it my car and drive

Mile after mile

To escape this Urban desert

Infested with corporate chains and detached things

Surely this is no way to live

But who am I to disagree

I just put my pen to paper and hope people agree

That this corporate shit ain’t the way to live

There must be an oasis amid all of this

But when they hang the AutoZone sign

Where I come from it’s just a sign of the times

The small guys ran out of pennies and dimes

So here we are under the Urban Desert Sun

I hold my breathe as I look up

Close my eyes

And run

Deposit Note

Banks and deposit notes
Pulled up to the curb
Tire scratching the cement shoulder
Reaching and barely hitting the keys
This is just the way it has to be
On a Wednesday
Have to make sure the bills are on time
Lord knows if I am short one dime
It might be the end
Or possibly
The beginning of something new
For now
Just make my deposit
Pray nothing reads Past Due

Ambles

Late night rambles

turning my mind into scrambles

leaving me in shambles

It is terrible

I am tired

It is late

Why do I put off sleep

procrastinate

prolongate

something that should be shortened

to a simple task

the computer breathes for me

keeps me going

all this and no real knowing

if it really does anything at all

my mind is scrambled

and my eyelids are about to fall

Boiled Noodles

Boiled noodles midnight in Michigan
My hunger has me going again
Boiling water and some salt will do
Just something to get me through
Water bubbles quick and constant
Soften up the noodles please
From the small pan emits the steam
The refrigerator buzz keeps me awake
Constant hum for god sake
Shut that thing off or turn it down
It is the only thing that I can hear now
Filling up my ears with constant buzz
Keeping the food safe and cool
Mind wandering through pantries and closets
To fill my stomach
Sitting quirky in the kitchen den
Back to waiting for those noodles again

My Soul Thaw

I am literally thawing out from such a frigid winter this year. 80 degrees and 100 humidity never felt so good. I am glad that summer has decided to show up for a couple of months. We will see how long it lasts. I hope that you are enjoying the beginning days of your summer also. I hope it is a great time of year! Cheers!

Summer bursts greens and blues

Humidity warming things up in a misty hue

The sun heats up the ground below

Finally I can feel my soul thaw

Come out from a chilling sleep within

Crackling of birds let you know summer is near

I can see it and feel it in the air

Of a summer morning and evening light

All the hot wind got me feeling alright

Mulch and grass clippings remind me

Of growing up on the farm

Taking care of the horses and dogs

Long days

Hours spent

Working to keep the farm up and running

In those days sweat ran fast

When the sun was shining

Brining me back to today

As the sun shines away

Giving life to a lifeless canvas

Bringing back the feeling of senses

This is summer

Thank god for it’s coming

Just seeing people outside sunning

Lady’s looking fine in skirts and linens

Reminds me of what I love about summer

Its carefree reminder of what is great

Simple yet joyful

Thank God summer is here

Derailed

This is an ode to one strange night in Paris. A place that will go unnamed. It was a dinner setting – with all the markings of a great club. Lights low, waitress attentive and helpful, but the singer was a bit strange. She took the stage Vegas style in this little French club and everyone began to wonder what was going on. She was pure entertainment that is for sure. But I am not quite sure what for. So here it is a poem to an akward night in Paris. Cheers!

–

It was akward

awuk ward

The way she sang

Staring right at the crowd

No one had the heart to say

It was too freaking loud

Enjoy a beverage and relax

She turns her music up

Through the stacks

Of speakers to her right and left

The tone she sang with

Had my ears screaming theft

But what a soul she had

With so much power and command

Her volume fluctuated

No one had more passion than

Her

She grabbed the mic

In confident fashion

Lights turned low in the Paris club

She came bursting through

The loud speakers above

The club dripped with fashion

Attention to detail

This karaoke

Sent the place

Derailed

Off ended

Crashing crusading

Singing shaking

It was all but over when I had to leave

It was entertainment

She had the right awa

That I can’t beseech

Her

Or anyone else

On this night in Paris

Just off the boulevard

Lighting the Sky

I have been back in the States for just a couple of days. I have many writings and poems from Europe that I will be sharing soon. Life has been busier than expected all throughout Europe and even upon my return. In which case I end up writing in my book and not posting. I will make sure to get these posts up soon. Tonight a wicked late spring storm rolled in and I found it to be the perfect time to saddle into my chair and get the blog rolling again. Nothing like a little summer storm for inspiration. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for stories from Europe. Cheers.

Evening wear and summer thin

Sit right here to watch the storm roll in

Spitting drops from up above

Somehow this feeling fills me with love

Winds blowing from the west

Moving trees

Dancing

Jumping

Step outside and let the rain wash you back in

Have not seen clouds gather in months

Feels nice to see the storm front

Moving through this little town

Sending people inside

Wind blowing around

The days work will be left undone

Unless you finished in the setting sun

Rain will come for a couple of days

Bringing new light from the suns rays

But tonight it is dark as an evening lake

With waters so black no light penetrates

The night pulls us in to watch as the storm strikes

Moving quick

Striking fast

Rain splashes on the cement street

Getting our feet wet

Sending us into a retreat

Under the roof for some simple cover

Wind blowing now

Storms pulling at the seams

Grappling to throw down

Thunder playing a marching song

While the lightning illuminates the sky

The flash camera snaps catching all in one place

The trees hold still as our corneas adjust

For a moment the world is a white washed gray

Held in place by the light

Then darkness resumes bending trees and leaves

Up down all around

Flashing white amidst deep black hues

All on a summers storm

The thunder plays

The lightning song

In Germany

What an amazing first experience in Europe we had in Gera, Germany. I posted a video yesterday and have really been moved by the entire experience. It was a culture that was physically speaking very close to mine – but mentally a completely different place. I really enjoyed the simple appreciation for beauty and respect for the earth. Of course we have this in the States but in a different way. I was inspired and here are some of my thoughts. Cheers.

The Simple beauty of time gone by

Life lived in a lullaby

Not as pretty or so fancy

There is no real need

Amidst these hills and far away

I have learned of beauty this way

I can see right now the beauty

Today

A sunset falling sleepy over green hills

I feel connected to the evening still

The air brushes gently on my face

Evening crisp cool embrace

Houses gardens touching holding

The earth below blessing bestowing

The best of what mother earth can give

Keep it simple

This is no live preserved

This night is the live lived

Far away from my comfort and home

A long distance I have roamed

To this place in Germany

On the eastern border

Where nature is taken seriously

Treated with gentle care

The birds sing out

Over the mountains over thereThrough the allies and into townThe birds calls fall quiet to the city soundPeople moving slow enjoying the sceneLike no other place I have been Amidst a new culture A beautiful new faceI have come to nowThis is a truly moving place
