Rush, Rush, Hurry

Rush

Rush

Hurry

Nothing is worse than

The rush

The bustle of peoples muscles

Pounding pavement

Pushing gas pedals

Standing in Subways

Rush

Rush

Hurry

Don’t let the mind sway or worry

Make it out in traffic

Sit and wait

Just to see if you can take

The

Rush

Rush

Hurry

Miles from Bed

A thousand miles from my bed
Beat up
Torn
Tired
Bout dead
Blood shot eyed poker
Playing games other my mind
Looking for signs that I am close
To home
Make it in just 7 hours
Through the powers of flight
Through the night I coast
Trying to get home alone
To be joined with my lover
Upon arrival
Greeted with kisses
Back from the road
Because it’s her I’m missin
Airplane skid marks
Over national landmarks
In just a few hours
I will be home

Crackling Light

The evening sun

Crackles through the apartment

Reminding us

We are free

The life we live under this sun

Is up to you and me

I can see the dust kick up

As we fold the sheets

Feeling life

In our finger tips

We will make it in a new city

One step at a time

Wooden floors

And vintage heaters

Making note to feed the parking meters

Our life is new

But still the same

We will change anew

In a new place

A new time

We will see it through

Karaoke Warfare

Between me and you

I want to know

Who can sing the blues

No care for stories or background

Just the way your voice sounds

So sweet is the irony

For

Back when the blues were constructed

Even now as the legends are being inducted

To the halls of fame

There story was never boring

Never quite lame

The story of these greats

Could make you pause

Even wait

To hear the next lyric

The next verse

To know what adverse

Conditions these men and women faced

We can not reduce this music

To technicalities and perfection

It has been hard born

Since the moment of its inception

I see the value in entertainment

But its straining my understanding

Of what music is

So I fall back to some classic blues

Stories from long ago

And I remember

That music is the sound

That makes life

Enjoyable

Two Steps from the Crazies

Two steps from the crazies

It is truly quite amazing

No matter how I go about it

I find it

Running on the street

Talking to themselves on the sidewalks

Conversations blown up

With only one person who talks

Moving in fluid motion

Among the peace and quite

Among the commotion

Embedded in every situation

Creating abundant amounts of frustrations

Steer clear for a time

I have discovered no

Protective line

Now I watch out for the crazies

Watch what I do

What I say

Mind my own business

Try enjoy my day

Contrast and Compare

Contrast and compare

Leaving the soul in despair

Defining moments come through

Preparation and function

Losing all thoughts in deliberate motion

When all is lost

The path seems insurmountable

Breathtaking and long

There will be only one chance left

Of one lone singer

One lone song

The High Dollar List

Rents going up

Places made by artist

Now have become sought after

By the big name boutiques

In the vintage book store

People are talking

300% is the new going rate

There is no way

We can pay

These new fee’s

This street will soon be filled with

Boutiques and galleries

At that point it will cease to exist

When the artist move out

The high dollar

The new list

I only observe

I am new blood

My heart was drawn by her story

In the book store on the corner

An Ostracized Welcome

For some reason

The feeling of isolation

Does not bother me

Ostracized

Rather than welcome

Is something that I find welcomed

For in the subtle disapproval

I found

Holding steadfast

To my own principles

Some will appreciate this

Others will laugh and dismiss

Find something

Refuse to cave in

It has taught me that what people

Find important

Is not always important to me

That is all that I needed to see

To understand that if I stand tall

Don’t give in

The reward of being me

Alone amongst a crowd

Rewards the soul more

When I fall asleep at night

That is really all

I can ask for

State or Unstable

Let the day slip
Let it slide
Why not just give in
Pay for one more
Overpriced
Taxi ride
Fall short
Give in
No matter
What
State your in
You have to keep up with the city
Or it will flatten you
Leaving you thin
And brittle
Unstable
And dwindle
I’ll hang on
Give it all
For my bones will hold thick
Not allowing me to fall

Soul Pride

I took my friend from Sweden to the JFK
As we stood looking out the window of the train
I heard her say
That the Manhattan skyline made her remember the city
Trains passing by
Yet oh so pretty
NYC set on the evening sky
I will miss this place said with a sigh
Upon which it dawned on me
How lucky we are
To be
Citizens of this beautiful
Amazing
Country
What others would do to be come one
Get married, fall in love, sneak in, to get it done
But me I am set on this land
Born 20 steps from Lake Michigan
I found my pride
My soul
My heart owned
This seductive city
To call my own
But with pride comes
Responsibility
From sea to shining sea
We make this land great
Or terrible
It’s as easy as our demeanor
Can make it wondrous
Or meaner
We represent this city to travelers
Make it proud from skyscraper
To gravel
Take a moment to recall
What it means to be American
What all it is
What pride and joy
That we live in a great land
Our hearts deploy
