The Greatest Descent

What is safety

Pushed away unsafely

City streets stirred up and shady

It seems a story slams the headlines

Daily

The feeling is uneasy

Slightly crazy

How is it that civilization

Can never be quite content

Individuals looking for a reason

For the greatest descent

Wake up on Monday morning

The headlines read

3 men attacked with guns

On the streets

New York City

In the highest of high rises

No reason to sympathize

For one foolish man

Can bring down the hearts of 3

Right on the streets of the city

Disputes, commutes, early mornings

No sudden warning

My wife and I were only 4 miles away

Uneasy it seems these days

Life can be short of pretty

On tough days in New York City

Uneasy Life Matters

A mind scattered

Pulled apart and tattered

Will make not one noise when shattered

Yet others will wonder and chatter

With him there is something wrong

Something must be the matter

But no words will be used to flatter

My uneasy life matters

We Fail: Us

Where can we turn

When the world turning around

The world we created

Falls down

We fail us

Celebrities casting cosmic dust

On a race of humanity

Yet at times so inhumane

Full of disdain

Pains

Me to see this travesty

All around

In the papers

Insidious creatures from the ground

Clown

With my future

Its subversive to even ask now

Why there is such a break down

In race negotiations

Legitimate marriage situations

Crime in big cities

I need some good news

Something so good I can not refuse

The beauty of the love we all share

We share it somewhere

Just not in the headlines

More so in the outerlines

Humanity is great than celebrity

Is greater than these travesties

Is greater than cheap obscenity

And I hold this hope

To be true

Unknowingly Unknown

A case of distracting news

One that one can not simply refuse

The future of art

Is held in the arms of one minds repose

Unknowingly unknown

Somehow the highest calling

Is called from a distant awning

The creation of art

To focus on filters

Rather than a focus in part

Somehow the filters of heard and unheard

Call out some higher prestige fallen

On a certain selection of words

The construction of words

All hail to the critics

It’s all pretty sick

A devastating form of salutation

Pounding into my mind

I hold back the gates

Unfiltered

Untamed

I learned from my mistakes

The best form of creation

Happens in pure refinement

In an attempt to fasten the muscles

To make a call to creation

A new creation in the making

Sweet Subtleties

The sweet subtleties of the city

Through the breeze of leaves

Blossom from the long winter

Spring man now enter

In the calmness of May

May we be entertained by the weather

Alone

The gentle feel of a mild day

Close your eyes

To feel the city lift you away

Unequivocally Cliche

I don’t believe the cliches

Until one day

I stop right in my tracks

Others unable to help

When I truly ask

How is it so unequivocally true

That one senses success

They become less understanding

Of what they can help and do

I never believed the silly cliches

Until this happened to me one day

Swollen Skies

Growing up

Under swollen skies

Making changes

In our parents eyes

Commitments made

Growing mistakes

We just have to do

Whatever it takes

I watch you grow

You watch me

We help each other stay

From as low as life

Can be

We wake up together

To see another day

Whether its the sun

Or the rain

We grew up under swollen skies

When the rain fell

It pulled the tears out of our eyes

Yet we pushed through

I get to see a new face

Through the rain anew

I am honored and proud

To be your husband

Under these dark rain clouds

Rapid Scores

The leather cold from a chilly morning
Sand from clothes the night before
One grain less
One grain more
The birds chirp rapid scores
Pushing me out the door
The radio belts out last nights memories
Sent me off for the night
Making the ways
For new
Broken in
Days

Paving Paths of Uncertainty

From the bugs

To the webs

Rolling dust up

Cleaning the house

On a small Indiana farm

Crawling out

Yearning

Falling out

Contemplating the rearranging

The possessions I own

Giving up

Learning to let go

So we can roll down the road

From NY to IN

Paving paths of uncertainty

Getting older will certainly

Make me wonder about the future

What it holds

And how to just let go

Hands in the Barn

Working in the barn

Burnt ropes with wirey abrasion

Tender skin hoping for evasion

Wind blown grass

And summer sun

Splintered wood on floors broken

Stairs old yet not forgotten

This is where work is done on a Thursday night

Preparing for the next days engagement

Needing a cleaning before the arrangement

People will gather soon to celebrate

What makes life so joyful and happy

The walls full of webs will bloom into life

Wood dull old and crass

Will jump out with new vibes

Shaking the conversations out of the folks

While they enjoy a cocktail and a smoke

All in this barn set on an Indiana field

I will smile and be happy

When this old barn gives it’s yield
