Derailed

This is an ode to one strange night in Paris. A place that will go unnamed. It was a dinner setting – with all the markings of a great club. Lights low, waitress attentive and helpful, but the singer was a bit strange. She took the stage Vegas style in this little French club and everyone began to wonder what was going on. She was pure entertainment that is for sure. But I am not quite sure what for. So here it is a poem to an akward night in Paris. Cheers!

It was akward

awuk ward

The way she sang

Staring right at the crowd

No one had the heart to say

It was too freaking loud

Enjoy a beverage and relax

She turns her music up

Through the stacks

Of speakers to her right and left

The tone she sang with

Had my ears screaming theft

But what a soul she had

With so much power and command

Her volume fluctuated

No one had more passion than

Her

She grabbed the mic

In confident fashion

Lights turned low in the Paris club

She came bursting through

The loud speakers above

The club dripped with fashion

Attention to detail

This karaoke

Sent the place

Derailed

Off ended

Crashing crusading

Singing shaking

It was all but over when I had to leave

It was entertainment

She had the right awa

That I can’t beseech

Her

Or anyone else

On this night in Paris

Just off the boulevard

Lighting the Sky

I have been back in the States for just a couple of days. I have many writings and poems from Europe that I will be sharing soon. Life has been busier than expected all throughout Europe and even upon my return. In which case I end up writing in my book and not posting. I will make sure to get these posts up soon. Tonight a wicked late spring storm rolled in and I found it to be the perfect time to saddle into my chair and get the blog rolling again. Nothing like a little summer storm for inspiration. I hope you enjoy and stay tuned for stories from Europe. Cheers.

Evening wear and summer thin

Sit right here to watch the storm roll in

Spitting drops from up above

Somehow this feeling fills me with love

Winds blowing from the west

Moving trees

Dancing

Jumping

Step outside and let the rain wash you back in

Have not seen clouds gather in months

Feels nice to see the storm front

Moving through this little town

Sending people inside

Wind blowing around

The days work will be left undone

Unless you finished in the setting sun

Rain will come for a couple of days

Bringing new light from the suns rays

But tonight it is dark as an evening lake

With waters so black no light penetrates

The night pulls us in to watch as the storm strikes

Moving quick

Striking fast

Rain splashes on the cement street

Getting our feet wet

Sending us into a retreat

Under the roof for some simple cover

Wind blowing now

Storms pulling at the seams

Grappling to throw down

Thunder playing a marching song

While the lightning illuminates the sky

The flash camera snaps catching all in one place

The trees hold still as our corneas adjust

For a moment the world is a white washed gray

Held in place by the light

Then darkness resumes bending trees and leaves

Up down all around

Flashing white amidst deep black hues

All on a summers storm

The thunder plays

The lightning song

In Germany

What an amazing first experience in Europe we had in Gera, Germany. I posted a video yesterday and have really been moved by the entire experience. It was a culture that was physically speaking very close to mine – but mentally a completely different place. I really enjoyed the simple appreciation for beauty and respect for the earth. Of course we have this in the States but in a different way. I was inspired and here are some of my thoughts. Cheers.

The Simple beauty of time gone by

Life lived in a lullaby

Not as pretty or so fancy

There is no real need

Amidst these hills and far away

I have learned of beauty this way

I can see right now the beauty

Today

A sunset falling sleepy over green hills

I feel connected to the evening still

The air brushes gently on my face

Evening crisp cool embrace

Houses gardens touching holding

The earth below blessing bestowing

The best of what mother earth can give

Keep it simple

This is no live preserved

This night is the live lived

Far away from my comfort and home

A long distance I have roamed

To this place in Germany

On the eastern border

Where nature is taken seriously

Treated with gentle care

The birds sing out

Over the mountains over thereThrough the allies and into townThe birds calls fall quiet to the city soundPeople moving slow enjoying the sceneLike no other place I have been Amidst a new culture A beautiful new faceI have come to nowThis is a truly moving place

The Rapid Eye Movement

Europe is so amazing. I have found it challenging to slow my mind down. It is probably a mixture of the jet lag, new languages, and sheer beauty of this place. It is completely new and intriguing. The landscapes are amazing and the stories and history that go with them are simply too much for my mind to wrap around. It is going to take some time to soak it all in. From Paris – Cheers!

All this beauty

All the color

All the tradition

My mind is wandering

Through words unknown and foreign

I try to slow

The rapid eye movement

Creeping faster and faster

Moving quicker and quicker

Around towers and bells

Through fields and mountains

Pools and lanterns

Brick streets and orange glow

These are where my thoughts go

When people are speaking

My lack of understanding

There is no way of having my mind

Make a soft landing

Until I rest at night

Thoughts slow

And slow

Slow

Off I am

To sleep

Just let my mind go

Spilled Wine in Paris

Hello! I am doing my best to keep up with my posts. I have over a dozen in my writing book but have found no time to post as the internet has been in and out for me as we travel. I wrote this one when I saw a group reacting to a fallen glass of wine in a beautiful restaurant in Paris. I surely love this town and am writing about all of my first experiences in the city. I have much to learn – but am enjoying every moment! Bonne Journee!

–

The table draws tense

My movements should not have been in haste

The fine wine with lingering taste

Now dismantled on the table

Dripping off the sides and too the floor

Falling dripping cascading

My eyes depart from the wine

Hoping to wipe pull it back

The waiter asks me for help

All is not lost

He will brings a small stack

Of towels to help with the problem

My movements are robotic and slow

Feeling the weight of the faux pa

On my soul

I have learned I must move with great ease

Art in motion

More subtle please

What more could I have learned from this

A fallen glass of wine

In Paris

Lost Internet in Europe

Our computer is currently down and I have found writing to be more of a challenge than I initially thought while touring abroad. Our shows have been incredible and we have gained many new amazing fans. Germany is a very beautiful country and I do have some great writings that I’m going to be posting soon – e do not have access to a computer it will be done via phone. For some reason the posts look kind of funny from the phone but they have the same content. Stay tuned. Cheers -Nate

The Shortest Night of My Life

A simple writing from my experience in the air over Leipzig, Germany. I have never flown across the ocean, but it surely was an amazing experience – you never get to experience it for a first time again – so I wanted to document it. So now we are in Germany and having a wonderful time. I hope to keep the blog up to date with new experiences and stories. I am sure this trip will give me a lot to say. All the best and enjoy – Cheers!

–

The shortest night of my life

started around 5 P.M.

got in a plane in Chicago

got up in the air and off we go

before too long the sun was down

headed east

pulling around some sharp turbulence in Quebec

Got me feeling dizzy

in only hours gone by the sun has risen back

in the sky

my heart beats out of my chest

I felt I could die

that surely was the shortest night of my life

A Wooden Story

This is not a story about John Wooden. I mean wooden as in consisting of wood. I took a minute in another hotel room to reflect and think about what my guitar would say – if it could speak. I think it might say some of the things herein – probably a lot more than what I could think of. But I will never know. I just hope it is good – I try my best. I hope you enjoy the story and rock on!

–

What story would this guitar tell

Would it be true

Or would it lie

Would it tell you everything

Or just enough to stop the questions

Would it be loud

Or soft

And kind

Gentle or harsh

Loud and unforgiving

Angry

What would it say

Brag and boast

Or simply tell a small tale

Would it go on and on

Or just talk for a quick minute

I would like to think I have taken care of her

She has worked hard and played hard

I try to let her see the world

Through song and lyric

I expose her to new challenges and obstacles

Experiences and countries

Al the while she continues to stay true

To work hard and stay in tune

She needs a little love and care

And a bit of repair

But on Saturday nights you can hear her

Sing bright in the stage light

Bringing a smile to my face

Resonating at her own pace

I hope she has a great life

When she reflects she can say

Being here with me was much better

Than ok

Moving Out There

We have been on the road constantly for over 2 weeks and now we are leaving for Europe tomorrow. I wrote this poem at the beginning of our travels. I feel as if this is our big move – so I was moved to write one night late in a hotel room in Fort Wayne, IN.
I hope you enjoy – Cheers by the time you read this I have begun my travels to Germany to bring American music to Europe! Cheers!

Ode to comfort

Back on the road

So the story goes

Got to get to the city

Play some shows

Ready to get back on stage

That is where I am destined to be

Living among the roads and the trees

To own so little has truly set me free

From dainty things

That really own me

Next month we will head overseas

For the first time the road will grow

And grow

So ode to comfort

It was nice or a minute

But now I am moving on

Forward I will be

Back in due time

But don’t come looking for me

To quick I will know where to come back too

When I am home sick

But for now the road calls

When the pen hits the paper I will be miles away

For I remember

I am moving into the world today
