How Friendships Change

Friend and moments

Time and history

What changes ahead and lies behind

Can be one great mystery

From meeting to realizing

From analyzing to growing

Friendships have a way of outlasting

While the mind keeps going

But at some point distance can be too great

Challenges and differences to obtuse

That is when some friends just have

To cut loose

But friendships change as do all living creatures

If history be true

This surely it will teach us

Fast Impact

Fast impact

With little for sustain

Sustenance or compounded frame

How can we be so quick

To change

Change judgement

Words

Rearrange meanings and then

Come back to the same

What is it that can revolve

A door then disappear in moments

How can this happen overnight

Into the bright light

No one has it right

No one has it right

Bequeathed

I cry cowardly over my leather shoes

The moan of hateful speech

Beacons a new wrath

The exotic clover has grown

Dried up and shriveled

Bequeathed

For the next generation

A sensational generation

My hope and dream

So I do my part in planting hope and optimism

Even in this world of ever deep division

Our hopes and dreams

Bequeathed from our fathers and mothers

Have been squandered away

On cheap things

I Respect

What is freedom of speech

When it is used as a means

To insult the strong or weak

Has an inherent conflict

With the word’s we speak

I respect

But respectfully disagree

How do we discover a line

A purpose

When the lines are so blurry now

We all have a right to our own views

At what point does it infringe on the rights

Of others

If abused in this sense

Seems morally distressed

I respect the freedom of speech

But I also must respect you

The Rally Cry of the Tired

The rally cry of the tired

A worthy cause flamed out with vigor

Passing floating rolling

I have tried

To do good

Good to be undone

So much has to rely on a rally cry

When your tired

And lonely

Not alone

You feel sad

Disconnected from the world

How did it work out not the way it was

All planned

A plane in flight unmanned

The plane now is in the final descent

It will land

How

Unknown

But through all of this

I

We

Have grown

Grown up

So here we come

The Last Minutes of 27

Upon the last minutes of 27
Sitting in New York City
A place of new wonder
And old world pragmatism
I think of life
Transition
It can be a rough year for a musician
Difficult to make it through
But I awake one more day
To find 28 upon my life will lay
I hope for good fortunes in this year
As I am in the evening of my twenties
Watching the sun set
On a decade of life
Under the umbrella
Enjoying the view
I grow
I continue to find
And discover
That which I did not know
Upon the last minutes of twenty seven
I am but a passenger in the train of life
Collecting these experiences as the train rolls by
I am happy to be able to have a part in earth
To have a reason
A desire
To approach the world with a renewed perspective
On this final moment
I sit and contemplate
What the new morning will bring
When I turn 28

Summer Rain

Summer rain falls mid day

filling the pavements

washing dead bugs and twigs away

cascading on grass so needy

pulling it beneath the earth

taking its fill and nothing greedy

grass blades bend soft with water pose

hoping that the sun will keep it live on loan

but the cloud has filled with pulled cotten clean

billowing the small stacks of steam

I sit and wander

how the world rejoices in summer thunder

for me under the roof i sit and watch

that water falls to the ground

filling the parched holes in the earth

with a simple pitter patter

the wonderful summer sound

Rest

This was written after a couple of weeks on the road. This trip included all of the major music hubs in the U.S. (in my humble opinion of course and for our particular genre). We had stops in New York, Chicago, L.A. and Nashville. We finally got to the end of our journey to a log cabin up in the woods on Traverse City, MI and I slept for basically 48 hours. At the end of the sleep I was able to get up and write some words that needed to be written down. They came to me in a early morning haze. So here it is a poem on rest – enjoy!

Rest

There is one thing that unifies

This no one can contest

That when we fall asleep

The mind now at rest

The heart

Beats

And beats

And beats

To no similar tune

But in similar fashion

The mind at rest

I can attest

This is the best

Way to connect to each other

There are no preconditions

No medication

Or temptation

For one to connect

To others

Through this sensation

Of mind cessation

Temporary of course

But this might lead a course of action

To rest away the weary eyes

To come to negotiation anew

Many a times it has worked for me

And surely will do the same for you

Lights out in gentle style

Let the mind take the lonely mile

And hearts beat sustain throughout the night

And in the morning

Everything will be alright
